  • Firing Schedule

Fire as a part of a 2 fire schedule. Fire in a kiln. Fire in activated coconut carbon. Please remember this firing schedule is based on a cold kiln and thickness of the piece is also something you need to work out. If a piece is any thicker than about 6mm thick you may need extra time due to the thickness of the piece.

Rehydrating Aussie Metal Clay Make sure you use DISTILLED WATER as it hydrates the clay better than ordinary water. Keep any moist clay in a sealed container so it doesn’t dry out.

Normal Open shelf firing for Aussie .999 Silver & Aussie .960 Silver
1 fire – place your pieces on an open kiln shelf in your kiln, You may like to sit them on a kiln paper or a firing blanket, but not necessary. From a cold kiln ramp to 1000 degrees Celsius & hold at 800 – 815 degrees Celsius (depending on your kiln heat). Hold time of 1 to 1.5 hours & let cool. Remove your pieces from the kiln once cool and your pieces are ready to brass brush, tumble & polish.
    Firing with CZs
    1st Fire Settings:
Set pieces on a bed of activated coconut carbon at a depth of approx. 10-12mm under pieces. If you would like you can also lay your pieces on a kiln paper or a fire blanket. Ramp at 1000 degrees Celsius to 400 degrees Celsius. Hold for 30 to 60 minutes for complete burnout of organic binder. Let cool, we don’t quench in water.

    2nd Fire:
Once cool, you cover your pieces with activated coconut carbon so that each piece is covered by about 12mm and fire for the second time. Ramping to 1000 degrees Celsius & hold at 800 – 815 degrees Celsius (depending on your kiln heat). Hold time of 1 to 1.5 hours & let cool. Remove your pieces from the activated coconut once cool and your pieces are ready to brass brush, tumble & polish.

Sculpey III Polymer Clay - Tranquility 2 oz block

very good clay for making custom forms, dies, and models for working with metal clay

    Basic Instructions:

Start with clean hands and work surface. Recommended work surfaces include Cool Tools Clayboard, glass surfaces, disposable foil, or wax paper. For best results, work light colors before dark colors to avoid staining clay. Condition clay by kneading until soft and smooth. When connecting two pieces of clay together, press firmly to ensure they stick together after baking. See baking times below. Do not use microwave oven. Do not exceed the recommended baking temperature or baking time.

    Baking Times:

Sulpey III bakes to hardness in the oven at 275°F (130°C) for 15 minutes per 1/4" (6 mm) thickness. It requires no painting.

    Changing the Consistency of Clay:

Sculpey clays have the unique ability to be made as firm or as soft as you like. To make your clay softer, simply add a few drops of Sculpey Mold Maker™ until desired consistency is reached. To make your clay more firm, roll your clay into a sheet. Sandwich your flat clay between 8-10 sheets of plain white copy paper. Place a weight on top of your clay (a phone book works great) and allow to sit for 1-24 hours, checking periodically.

    Pre-Baking Test:

Home oven temperatures may vary significantly depending on your oven, affecting the baking of your clay. To test the temperature of your oven prior to baking, pinch off a small ball of clay. Shape a disc about a 1/2" in diameter, approximately a 1/4" thick. Fire at appropriate temperature. Remove from oven and check color. Any darkened areas indicate that your oven is too hot. Lower your oven temperature by 10ºF and repeat test.

Sculpey III has the best detail and workability of the polymer clays. Sculpey III has the same excellent handling qualities as regular Sculpey, only it's softer and more pliable, making it easy to condition. Sculpey III is soft, easy-to-use and stays soft until you bake. Polymer clay is also a wonderful way to explore designs without risking your precious metal clay. Work out your designs in this clay before executing in metal clay. Bake and use as a mold. Use with your metal clay to brighten up your designs.

Use with your metal clay to brighten up your designs.

very good clay for making custom forms, dies, and models for working with metal clay

Premo! Sculpey bakes to hardness in the oven at 275°F (130°C) for 30 minutes per 1/4" (6 mm) thickness.

Premo! Sculpey is an artist's dream come true! Premo! Sculpey is firmer than Sculpey III, and extremely durable when baked. After kneading, Premo! Sculpey is soft enough to blend easily, but firm enough to hold fine detail and apply special techniques. Because Premo! Sculpey retains flexibility, the finished product remains very strong and durable. This unique characteristic makes it the most durable clay and is ideal for jewelry, home decor, and other decorative items. Polymer clay is also a wonderful way to explore designs without risking your precious metal clay. Work out your designs in this clay before executing in metal clay. Bake and use as a mold. Use polymer clay to add brilliant color to your jewelry designs.

This unique characteristic makes it the most durable clay and is ideal for jewelry, home decor, and other decorative items.

Shape a disc about a 1/2" in diameter, approximately a 1/4" thick. Fire at appropriate temperature. Remove from oven and check color. Any darkened areas indicate that your oven is too hot. Lower your oven temperature by 10ºF and repeat test.

    Goldie Sculptor's Copper - 50 gram Goldie Sculptor's Copper - 50 gram

    Goldie Sculptor's Copper - 50 gram

Goldie Sculptor’s Copper™ is copper of a beautiful pure red color. It is formulated with long carbo-hydrogen chains in the binder formula to have much greater strength and more resistance to collapse under its own weight than regular bronze clays and is more cohesive when wet and stronger after the first firing step. This allows the artist sculptor to create much larger designs. Another aspect of Sculptor’s Copper is its silky smooth texture and with appropriate hydration it can be thrown on a potter’s wheel.

This clay is well suited for sculptures and larger forms of jewelry. You can shape the wet and dry clay using chisels and other traditional sculptor’s tools.

Goldie Sculptor’s Copper™ is environmentally friendly. The powder contains 99.9% of pure dendrite copper. The binders are organic and non toxic. It shrinks by about 15%-23% on firing, depending on the shape and the size of the piece.

This clay comes in dry powder form. The dry powder can be kept for years. Mix only the amount you need so you always have fresh clay with the perfect texture. You'll have longer working time and a more workable product when the clay is mixed fresh as you need it.

Goldie Sculptor’s Bronze™ is bronze of a beautiful golden color, which is very hard after firing. It is formulated with long carbo-hydrogen chains in the binder formula to have much greater strength and more resistance to collapse under its own weight than regular bronze clays and is more cohesive when wet and stronger after the first firing step. This allows the artist sculptor to create much larger designs. Another aspect of Sculptor’s Bronze is its silky smooth texture and with appropriate hydration it can be thrown on a potter’s wheel.
