Silver Slip, Paste & Papers


Silver clay slip (also called paste) is available in a jar or loaded in a syringe. The paste form is used like glue to paste wet or dry silver clay objects in place, as a media for slip casting, for painting onto an object for a hollow form, and decoration. The syringe is used to extrude wire for decorating, setting stones, filling cracks, etc.

Paper form is a thin sheet of clay that can be used to make bezels for objects to be set before or after firing, used for ring shanks, folded like oragami, shapes can be cut out with punches and applied as decoration. The PMC version can be laminated with water to make it thicker. The Art Clay version of silver paper is much thicker than the PMC version.
Syringe Form - PMC
PMC+ and PMC3 are both available in syringe form. The clay has been loaded into a special syringe for extruding.

Uses This form is excellent for decorating objects and setting stones.
Workability Easy to use syringe, keep capped and in an airtight container when not in use.
Embedded Objects Follow the guidelines for embedded objects in the PMC+ or PMC3 lump version you are using.
Firing Options Fire at the same temperatures as for the lump form of the same PMC version.

Syringe Form - Art Clay Silver
Art Clay Silver syringe form is available in ACS650 Low Fire. The clay has been loaded into a special syringe for extruding. You can purchase this syringe with or without a tip. This clay has 8-9% shrinkage.

Uses This form is excellent for decorating objects and setting stones and filling cracks.
Workability ACS 650 can dry very quickly. Always keep the syringe tightly capped and in an airtight container when not in use
Embedded Objects Follow the guidelines for embedded objects in the Art Clay Silver lump version you are using.
Firing Options Fire at the same temperatures as for the lump form of ACS 650 Low Fire or Low Fire Slow Dry.

Paste Form - PMC
PMC+ and PMC3 are both available in paste form. Paste comes in a jar.

Uses This form is used to decorate, attach parts and fill cavities, and can be painted onto objects.
Workability Paste is thick but is easily applied with a paint brush or pallet knife. Keep tightly closed when not in use.
Embedded Objects Follow the guidelines for embedded objects in the PMC+ or PMC3 lump version you are using.
Firing Options Fire at the same temperatures as for the lump form of the same PMC version.

Paste Form - Art Clay Silver
Art Clay comes in a 650 Low Fire Paste. This paste comes in a jar.

Uses This clay is used for coating organic materials and to bond pieces or mend cracks on ACS 650 Low Fire lump clay.
Workability Some silver settling may occur at the bottom of the jar. Stir the paste well with a brush or metal spatula before use. If it dries add a small amount of water to rehydrate. Keep lid tightly closed when not in use.
Embedded Objects Follow the guidelines for embedded objects in the ACS Low Fire Slow Dry lump clay
Firing Options Fire at the same temperatures as for the lump form of ACS 650 Low Fire Slow Dry.

Paper Form - PMC
PMC+ is available in a thin sheet measuring either 3x12 cm or 6x6 cm.

Uses This form can be cut with punches or scissors and applied as decorations to objects. Use for making bezels, folded or draped forms and ring shanks.
Workability PMC+ paper dries very slowly. It's exceptionally thin and can be laminated to make thicker sheets by applying a mist of water (very fine!) to the paper and folding in half or placing another sheet on top..
Embedded Objects Any object that can withstand the firing temperatures and times of PMC+ can be embedded and fired in place. Some natural gemstones, lab gems and cubic zirconia's can be used, as well as porcelain.
Firing Options Fire at the same temperatures as for PMC+ Lump.

Paper Form - Art Clay Silver
Art Clay Silver is available in a 10 gram sheet measuring 3 inches x 3 inches. This brand of paper is much thicker than the PMC version and is preferrable for ring shanks.

Uses This unique paper-thin sheet of silver clay needs no drying and can be used for origami, folding, pleating or used with punches and scissors. Use for making bezels and ring shanks as well.
Workability This product has different characteristics than other Art Clay Silver products. Do not apply moisture to the surface. It will remain soft during your work.
Embedded Objects Any object that can withstand the firing temperatures and times of Art Clay Silver Paper can be embedded and fired in place. Fine silver wire, bezel wire and findings.
Firing Options Put the piece into a cold kiln and raise the temperature to 1472F, making sure to take 15 minutes to do so. Hold for 30 minutes at 1472F.
