A dapping block is a tool that is used to shape metal into a domed or dapped shape. Dapping blocks can be made of wood or metal. Wood blocks are best with soft metals because they do not scratch the metal being formed. A hardwood punch is used with a mallet to press the metal into shape and smooth it out. Use 2 domed pieces to create a hollow form.
