PMC: The Magic Clay

Precious metal clay is a magical substance. It looks like ordinary modeling clay, but it contains particles of pure fine silver or pure 24K gold.

Precious metal clay can be rolled, pinched, molded, impressed, extruded and sculpted into any shape you desire, then fired to result in a pure silver or gold object.

Dry clay objects can be refined with files, sandpaper, carving tools, drills and water to embellish or decorate the surface. Dry and wet clay parts can be assembled with paste and water to create anything from simple assemblies to elaborate constructions.

Laboratory created gemstones, cubic zirconia and many natural gemstones can be set into the clay either wet or dry and safely fired in place. Porcelain, glass, dichroic glass, and parts such as clasps, pins, jump rings and other findings can be fired along with the clay. It is even possible to bond metal clay directly to sterling silver.

Objects formed from PMC are transformed into solid metal in minutes by firing in a
kiln or with a torch. The metal object can then be filed, sanded, sawn, drilled,
engraved, patinated, riveted, formed, enameled, burnished, polished and
even soldered.

For those who have always dreamed of making jewelry, PMC opens
the door. For hobby and professional jewelers, metal clay offers an
incredible design option that frees them from the constraints of
fabrication and casting and combines beautifully into traditional
metal working techniques. PMC is a young product, but it has
already evolved into several new types and forms, each
one providing the artist with even more creative flexibility.
