  Design Stamp - Wave



 
These 3-1/2" long stamps are made from 1/4" round heat-treated tool steel.

This stamp can be impressed directly into metal clay or used traditionally with sheet metal (gold, silver, copper, brass, bronze). Start by practicing on copper or brass until you get the hang of it.

For best results, use a hardened steel bench block on a firm surface. Place your metal on the bench block and place the stamp straight up and down on the metal. Using a regular hammer with a flat face and a head that weighs at least 16oz (the size will be marked on the side of the hammer), hit the punch with a good amount of force. Don't be timid in the force you use. You'll need to use a fairly good blow to impress the design evenly and deep enough. You can hit the stamp more than once if your first blow is not hard enough, but do not move the stamp at all between blows or you will end up with 2 impressions.

You can use the stamp with any gauge of metal, but 24 gauge is ideal for most applications. Can be used on sheet metal, castings and metal clay.
