A flexible shaft machine can dramatically improve your productivity. There are so many ways to use a flexible shaft, from drilling to stone setting, polishing to texturing, grinding and carving, that you'll wonder how you ever got along without it.
The Prodigy features a pendant-style 1/8 horsepower ball bearing 20,000rpm motor for all the power you will ever need. The variable speed is controlled by an electronic foot pedal with high impact plastic housing. The hand piece is a Jacobs chuck (#30-style) that holds shanks up to 5/32" (4mm) diameter. That means you can insert anything into the chuck, from a hair all the way up to a 4mm diameter shank. The system also works with all of the jump ring making tools that require a #30 hand piece for even more flexibility.
A 'pendant-style' motor is designed be hung, so you will need a flexible shaft motor hanger (sold separately) to hang the motor. We offer both bench-mount and clamp-mount hangers. A bench-mount hanger is screwed into the work surface, a clamp-mount uses a c-clamp to mount the hanger temporarily to a work surface. The bench-mount hanger is a much cleaner look without the unlovely clamp in the way.
Even with proper maintenance it will be necessary to replace the shaft of your flexible shaft machine. This kit includes the replacement shaft, sheath and hardware necessary to change the shaft. A shaft that needs to be replaced will make itself known by breaking. It's important to have a replacement on hand for that unforeseen (and always inconvenient) event.
