Long handled brass brush for burnishing silver clay. 3 rows of 1/2" long fine bristles. Head is 1-1/2" x .25". Oak handle.

Use the brass brush to burnish down the crystaline silver surface of freshly fired silver clay. The white surface is not a crust to brush off, but silver that is brushed or burnished down to compact the surface. Burnishing is the first step in the finishing process for metal clay.

Keep a dish of soapy water at the sink and dip the brush in the soapy water, then brush the item to be burnished in a steady, forward motion. Turn the piece in your hand or on the rubber block to maintain the same brushing motion. The entire piece must be burnished. Any unburnished areas will appear white when dry. A 3M bristle disc can be used to polish in areas where the brass brush will not reach.

For BRONZclay, use a stainless steel scratch brush.
